Freecell Solitaire is a highly popular game, made famous by Microsoft. Freecell is included in Windows, and is considered a classic solitaire game by many. Because you can see ALL the cards right from the start, there is no luck involved, making Freecell one of the few solitaire games which is based totally on the player’s skill.
- You have to plan several moves ahead. Before making your first move, examine the table carefully. Moves that seem obvious are not always the best ones.
- Start with the Aces. Make it the priority to free all Aces first, especially if they are buried behind several high cards.
- Create an empty pile on the table as soon as possible. Empty piles can be even more useful than empty free cells. They can be used to store an entire sequence of cards instead of just one card. They also make it possible to move an ordered sequence of cards that is twice as long from one pile to another, also known as a “super-move”.
- Don’t place and cards in the free cells unless you have no alternative. Always try to keep as many free cells empty as possible. The key to solve a Freecell deal is the ability to maneuver and you will have nearly no space to do that once they are all full.
- Always try to fill empty piles with a long descending sequence, beginning with a King if possible.
- Do not move every card you can to the home cells to fast. You might need them to move around lower cards of other suits.
Some Freecell games are solved very easily while other may take more time to complete. By replaying the same shuffle in a number of different ways you will be able to solve most of the more difficult ones. The more you play the more games you will be able to solve. Continue to practice using the strategies above and soon you will find yourself getting better results and having more fun playing Freecell solitaire!
Safe Moves
There are certain moves you can make at any time in Freecell and know it wont “trap” you later on in the game. You can move the Aces (and the twos when they can be played), at any time, as no other cards depend on them. For the other cards, you can safely move them to the foundation if the cards one less in rank, of the opposite color, are already in the foundation. For example, you can safely move the 5 of Diamonds, if the black 4s have already been moved to the foundation.
Better Freecell earn money game will automatically do these safe moves for your, so you can concentrate on the moves that matter, rather than having to manually make inconsequential moves.
Another popular strategy is just to go straight for releasing the Aces, and then the 2’s, etc. This strategy is easier, and requires less thought. It will work for the easier games, but won’t help on the hard deals (such as deal 1941)
The most important strategy of all though, is to try and keep the freecells empty. If you can do that, and empty a couple of columns as well, then you should find it very easy to finish the game.
